DAY 14 : FRI 10TH OCT
Sightseeing in Sydney
Overnight at Meriton Suites Sussex St
After spending yesterday in and around the harbour area taking in the man-made structures of the city, today we had a day experiencing the natural beauty of Sydney and the surrounding area. We headed out to the eastern beaches and did the coastal walk between Coogee Beach and Bondi, then after lunch headed back to the city to the Botanical Gardens and finished off at the Queen Victoria Building, a beautifully maintained late-Victorian era galleried shopping mall. I don't normally do shops, but this was worth the visit.
Whilst Bondi is the most famous Sydney beach I much preferred the smaller, quieter beaches along the rocky coastline between there and Coogee. A series of little coves with small sandy beaches at the end, overlooked by some really nice properties stacked up the steep surrounding hillsides which must have stunning views. Oh, and we saw some whales. Which was nice.
If yesterday's word of the day was "haaba", today's is "buttocks". Lots and lots of buttocks. Of all shapes and sizes. Suffice it to say that the average size of Australian bikini bottoms is as small as the country is large.
And so ends another tiring (my watch says I did almost 20k steps) but enjoyable day. I definitely feel like we've given Sydney a pretty good go in 2 days.
