Overnight at the Desert Gardens in Uluru resort

Alarm set for 4:30am ready for a 5am pickup for our trip to see the sunrise at Uluru. The word of the day is one of the most overused in the English language: awesome. I find it mildly annoying because of how people use it to describe a coffee or a pizza. However nice those things may be, they do not inspire awe. Uluru most certainly does. Seeing it light up as the first rays of the sun hit it is quite a sight. And it's big. Really big.

From there, a short drive to Kata Kjuta, a huge rock formation from the same era as Uluru, and a 2km hike up Walpa Gorge. Bonus word of the day: walpa, an Anangu (the local aboriginal people) word for windy. Then back to the hotel for some R&R.

Uluru at sunrise was a genuinely awesome experience. No pizza involved.
